History
This tradition of Eclectic Wicca was started in the late 1960's and was
known as the Silver Chalice. The main coven was located in the
Westchester area of upstate New York. By the end of 1986 the land was
sold, and all of the covens that had come from the Silver Chalice were
refered to as UEW. This broad based tradition was created by Jayne
Tomas, and was expanded on by Kaatryn MacMorgan. The original purpose
of this group was to bring together followers from several different
groups whose leaders had learned from the same training circle. The UEW
is the result of people coming together from a varity of different
covens, and devolping a tradition that encompasses all of the different
beliefs. This tradition is based on an infinite number of sources.
According to Lady Martia this tradition was created partly out of
necessity with a group of people practicing similar but different
beliefs, it was also created out of a need for reform, as it was felt
that too much power was with the men in the Gardnerian, and Alexandria
traditions, and that not enough focus was given to men in the Dianic
tradition. The Church of Universal Eclectic Wicca has been in existance
since 1995. Its main teaching outlet is the Coven of the Far Flung Net
which is a virtual coven that was established in January of 1998. This
was one of the first virtual covens, and this coven is still providing
free education in the wiccan religion through mailing lists, and
interest based groups.
